Is A Discount Notebook Computer Right For You

While notebook computer prices declined quite a lot, laptop prices still go from the inexpensive notebook models to those high end luxury jobs. Obviously, whatever notebook you finally decide to buy is going to depend on your resources and requirements, but if you are budget conscious, as so many of us are, you really ought to think about picking up a discount notebook computer.

Since there are many reasons why a particular model could be discounted, it's a good idea to find out why. Any legitimate retailer ought to be able to give you a reasonable explanation. Also, a discount notebook computer should be new and carry a full manufacturer's warranty. Some specific notebooks could be discounted because they've been factory reconditioned or refurbished.

That would usually mean they were bought and returned for some reason. Then the factory rebuilt them to their original specifications and replaced any damaged or defective components. Usually reconditioned or refurbished laptops are available for even less than discount notebooks. Not everyone will take a chance on a rebuilt notebook, but you should consider the fact that these machines have been burned in and the weak parts failed and have been replaced. And they still come with a full warranty.

Manufacturers often discount models based on the closeout of a particular notebook computer. Sure, it may not have the latest technology and it's being replaced by an upgraded model, but it still may be exactly what you're looking for. Discounts are sometimes given for loss leaders. Frequently, a person will eventually upgrade to a more expensive model based on brand loyalty or just the comfortable knowledge that his or her first notebook from XYZ Corp worked well so why not stick with them. A lifetime customer is worth a small loss. Also, retailers will often discount to eliminate excess inventory or to prepare for new models. Just be absolutely make sure you aren't being sold a used notebook disguised as a discounted model. Check the warranty. Generally a used notebook will not carry a manufacturer's warranty and any warranty period will usually be shorter then the standard new model warranty. Never, ever be afraid to ask uncomfortable questions. After all it's your money and it's going to be your data going into that notebook you buy. If you get weak or unsatisfactory answers, evasions or hostility, take a walk. There's lots of places to buy notebook computers.

One thing you really need to do is to analyze your own computer needs before you go looking for a notebook computer. Exactly what will you be using the machine for most of the time. How important is it to have a really fast machine? Do you need high end graphics? How much disk space do you require? Do you need to read both CDs and DVDs? Do you want to be able to write CDs, DVDs? What kind of sound do you need? How much memory? What other specific features do you want - wireless, networking, floppy disk? Do you plan to carry it around a lot? Then weight may be important. Do you need a long battery life? How about the size of the screen? What will you be comfortable with? Don't go looking for your new notebook until you're clear on your own needs. And don't get caught up in the newest, fastest, most powerful syndrome. 97% of notebook users have more power than they'll ever really use. It's not too bright to pay for goodies you'll never use just to have a talking point to impress your friends with. The reality is that 97 to 99% of the notebook computer buyers could do at least 95% of their typical tasks with the cheapest, slowest notebook on the market. So think carefully before you go out and blow your limit on the plastic. A good discount notebook computer can not only meet all your needs, but it can save you a nice piece of cash to make an extra mortgage payment or just have a good time.
